Acts 1:1–5 — Wait for the Promise
Acts continues what Jesus began to do and teach.
Jesus showed Himself alive after suffering, with many proofs, over forty days.
He spoke about the kingdom of God.
The apostles were to wait in Jerusalem for the Father’s promise: baptism with the Holy Spirit.

Acts 1:6–11 — Witnesses to the Ends of the Earth
The apostles asked about restoring the kingdom to Israel.
Jesus said the times and seasons are in the Father’s authority.
They would receive power when the Holy Spirit came upon them.
They would be Jesus’ witnesses in Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria, and the end of the earth.
Jesus was taken up—and will come in the same way He went into heaven.
Acts 1:6–11 · The church’s message rests on eyewitness testimony to the risen Christ.
Acts 1:12–26 — Prayer, Scripture, and the Twelve
The apostles returned to Jerusalem and devoted themselves with one accord to prayer.
Peter showed that Judas’ replacement was in keeping with Scripture.
The candidate had to have been with them from John’s baptism until Jesus’ ascension.
The purpose: one man must become a witness with us of His resurrection.
They prayed, cast lots, and Matthias was numbered with the eleven apostles.
Acts 1:12–26 · The apostles seek the Lord’s direction and follow the written word.
