Acts 2:1–13 — The Holy Spirit Comes
At Pentecost, the disciples were together in Jerusalem.
There came a sound like a rushing mighty wind.
Tongues as of fire appeared.
They were filled with the Holy Spirit.
They spoke in other tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance.
People from many nations heard them in their own languages.
They heard the wonderful works of God.
Some were amazed; others mocked.
Acts 1 promise fulfilled: Spirit → power → witness.
Acts 2:1–13
Acts 2:14–41 — Peter Preaches Christ
Peter stands with the eleven.
Joel: “This is what was spoken by the prophet Joel.”
Jesus was attested by miracles, wonders, and signs.
Jesus was crucified and raised by God.
Psalm 16: David spoke of the resurrection of the Christ.
“This Jesus God raised up, and of that we all are witnesses.”
Psalm 110: Jesus is exalted at God’s right hand.
“God has made him both Lord and Christ.”
The people were cut to the heart: “What shall we do?”
“Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins.”
Those who received the word were baptized; about 3,000 were added.
Acts 2:14–41
Acts 2:42–47 — The Church Begins Its Life Together
They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching.
They devoted themselves to fellowship.
They devoted themselves to the breaking of bread.
They devoted themselves to prayers.
The believers were together and cared for those in need.
They met in the temple and from house to house.
They ate with glad and generous hearts.
They praised God and had favor with the people.
“And the Lord added to their number day by day those who were being saved.”
