• The stone is rolled away.
• The body of Jesus is gone.
• Two men in dazzling clothing remind them that Jesus had predicted His resurrection.
• The women report what happened to the apostles.
• Peter runs to the tomb and sees the linen cloths.

The Road to Emmaus

Jesus on the Road to Emmaus

• Two disciples travel from Jerusalem toward Emmaus.
• Jesus joins them, but they do not recognize Him.
• They tell Jesus about His own crucifixion and the empty tomb.
• Jesus explains Moses and the Prophets concerning Himself.
• They recognize Him when He breaks bread.
• They immediately return to Jerusalem.

Jesus Appears to the Disciples

“Peace to You”

• Jesus suddenly appears among the disciples.
• They think they are seeing a spirit.
• Jesus shows them His hands and feet.
• He tells them to touch Him.
• He eats fish in front of them.
• Jesus demonstrates that He is physically alive.

Luke 24:44–49

The Scriptures and the Mission

The Mission Begins

Jesus explains that everything written about Him in:

• the Law of Moses,
• the Prophets,
• and the Psalms

must be fulfilled.

The message to be preached:

• Christ would suffer.
• Christ would rise from the dead.
• Repentance and forgiveness of sins would be proclaimed.
• The message would go to all nations.
• It would begin at Jerusalem.
• The disciples must wait for power from God.

Luke 24:50–53

The Ascension

Jesus Ascends

• Jesus leads the disciples toward Bethany.
• He blesses them.
• He is carried up into heaven.
• The disciples worship Him.
• They return to Jerusalem with great joy.
• They remain in the temple praising God.
